Success for Bromley Council with APCOA and Unity5
Many local authorities across the UK are already issuing thousands of FPNs using Unity5’s environmental enforcement solution.
Bromley Council work with APCOA and Unity5 to maintain cleaner streets and the local environment.
Angela Page, Executive Councillor for Public Protection and Enforcement at Bromley Council, said,
“It costs us £millions a year to keep our streets clean and, whilst few people do litter, it is still an issue that we all need to tackle. Littering is a criminal offence, and enforcement officers will issue fixed penalty notices to anyone found littering. If the fixed penalty notice is not paid, prosecution then follows. We don’t want to prosecute anyone, so we strongly encourage residents and visitors to the borough not to litter but to take rubbish home with them or dispose of them correctly.”
For example, since using Unity5’s Zatenviro system Bromley Council have issued over 3,000 FPNs in 12 months, which represents a high issue rate for the council. These were for a variety of offences, mainly littering – which have been paid. The mark of success in the challenge to reduce offending behaviours while improving the local environment. Russell Peacock, Director of Environmental Enforcement at Bromley’s full service parking management company APCOA says:
“Unity5’s system is easy to use, it’s very simple to pull prosecution packs together. We’ve been successful in 15 cases that have gone to prosecution – winning all of them. The self-service aspect is very useful and our staff can very quickly change letters or progression types. The reporting suite is great and allows us to pull our own custom reports together. We’ve been delighted to develop the system together and roll out Zatpermit software to multiple local authorities.”
