Unity5 are awarded 2024 ‘Team of the Year’ by the IPC (International Parking Community).
The IPC recognised the Unity5 team for the launch of our innovative Bay Monitoring capability added to our already feature-rich Zatpark product. The solution had to be something truly unique to the market, offering customers a chance to scale their businesses and address known issues, while also staying true to Unity5’s commitment to quality. Forming a dedicated team of senior members of the founding Zatpark team and industry experts, the team decided that the solution had to work for the most complex and also the most basic scenarios. Embracing the Opportunity
The team eagerly embraced the opportunity, working with exceptional tenacity and collaboration to deliver a product that truly changed the market. Each member worked to contribute a number of innovative ideas that helped shape a product designed to streamline the management of smaller car parking areas. These areas, often costly to operate due to their small size or challenging to manage because of their location, now benefit from a system that is efficient and cost-effective to install. Its cost-effectiveness is partly due to the ability to process an infinite number of reads quickly.
- Testing has shown that the product can process a PCN in under 15 seconds, equating to around 360 reads an hour.
- The product makes enforcement for smaller areas much more cost-efficient due to the integrations we have built with budget-friendly camera suppliers.
- In some cases, these cameras can also operate using 4G and solar power, meaning they do not need to be connected to mains power to ensure connectivity.
- Within six months of launch, we had already integrated with five different camera manufacturers, equating to 18 different camera models.
With the addition of these more basic budget-friendly cameras, there are potentially hundreds of supported camera models, allowing the product to scale with your business. The team’s contributions spanned internal processes, technology stacks, feature development, functionality, and hardware integrations. Every team member brought something vital and unique, both to the team and to the final product.

The Unity5 Bay Monitoring Team
- Ewen Orme (Director of Engineering) stepped in to work as the technical lead, developing the matching engine that became the foundation of the project.
- Will Slade (Principal Developer) worked on bringing the team’s ideas to fruition, including the creation of customer-friendly interfaces.
- Dan James (Lead DevOps Engineer) was instrumental in nurturing the AI capabilities that are continually being utilised within the Unity5 product suite. For Bay Monitoring, this came in the form of vehicle plate recognition, allowing clients to identify registrations from images, thereby reducing costs associated with purchasing high-end hardware.
- Jono Clark (Technical Partnership Manager) and Joe Bubb (Senior Account Manager) played pivotal roles by working closely with suppliers, regulatory bodies and clients to ensure seamless integrations, commercial value and compliance. Their contributions were crucial during the full lifecycle and release of Bay Monitoring.
On the development of the product, Senior Account Manager Joe Bubb said:
“Our product development journey began with a deep dive into client requirements, focusing on their perspectives on how Bay Monitoring would be utilised, particularly for contraventions and specific use cases. We collaborated closely with our development team to ensure that the product aligned with the needs of the parking sector. Once we had a solid foundation, we proactively communicated the product’s impending release to our clients, primarily through our user groups.”
The outcome of the team’s efforts is a streamlined product that distinguishes itself from traditional ANPR solutions without sacrificing essential features. With real-time capabilities and monitoring, it offers clients a versatile, cost-effective solution. Additionally, by integrating with a variety of camera providers, the Bay Monitoring product gives customers the flexibility to select equipment that meets both their budget and technical requirements.
We sincerely thank The IPC for the opportunity and their support in bestowing this prestigious award.
